Find an E-mail Address

You’ve had a great phone interview and you know the next step is to write a thank you note and you want to get it there quickly, but you don’t have an e-mail address. Don’t fret!

Larger companies often don’t provide e-mail addresses or company contact lists, but that doesn’t mean the interviewer’s e-mail is impossible to find. Have you tried just searching the person’s name and the company name? Using quotations? Just searching the phone number? If you know the correct spelling of the interviewer’s name, you can probably find additional activities the interviewer is involved in.

Try LinkedIn. Try Facebook. Try news groups and user groups, especially for niche and trade organizations. Another trick to try is if you know the company uses firstname.lastname@company.com search that and see what comes up. Other ones to try:

  • firstname.lastname@company.com
  • firstname_lastname@company.com
  • firstnamelastname@company.com
  • firstinitiallastname@company.com
  • firstinitial_lastname@company.com
  • lastname@company.com
  • firstnamelastnameinitial@company.com

Be wary of free e-mail finding services and even more wary of sites that require you to register or pay money. Those sites are likely scams.

How do you find a hard to find e-mail address?
