You checked your credit report?
You got a speeding or other traffic ticket?

If your answer is never and just the other day, you may not get that job offer you’ve hope for. In addition to the sometimes arduous application and interview process, more and more employers are checking the credit and driving history of all applicants-even if you’ll never have a company American Express card or drive a company car.

Employers use driving and credit history to determine your level of responsibility. Fair or not, you should presume these items will be reviewed in a background check.

The Privacy Rights Clearinghouse, has a good Fact Sheet available on Employment Background Checks for Jobseekers. Though dated 1994, the information is still relevant and includes FAQ. I suggest you check it out, particularly if you have never checked your credit report or just got a speeding ticket.
