As I said in Follow Up with People You Meet, timing is everything. The sooner you can follow-up with those you meet, the more likely they are to remember you and vice versa.
Every time you meet someone is an opportunity to make a connection, either personally or professionally. You never know when someone is going to be searching for an expert in your field.
How do you feel about business cards? How do you keep track of all the people you meet?

So true! stop and think how often you hear the phrase, “Have you got a card?” And isn’t it the case that most of the time, the response is “Gee, I just gave the last one out . . .” which we all know means “I haven’t brought cards out with me in over a year – I don’t even know where they are!”
Don’t be the one making lame excuses – always give out your card. Even if 9 out of 10 are ultimately thrown away, that tenth might bring a great job your way!

I always have business cards on me now because of what you said Aurora, “you never know when someone is going to be searching for an expert in your field”. Or, you never know who knows who. You might come up in a conversation where the person you gave your business card too might be like “Oh well I just met ____ and here is her information”. You just never know. Because of this I keep business cards in my nook case (I am always reading), my personal planner, my wallet etc. This way, no matter where I am or what I am doing, I have some on me.
Also, you never know who knows who. You might come up in a conversation and your information passed on!
